Sabrina's Thoughts:
build a portfolio of any art work/flash deigsns you have done to show too studios, try to vary the styles when choosing what to put in it (new skool/ old skool deigsns, biomech, traditional, oriental etc to show a wide knowledge in different styles). brush up on your tattooing history, look at the work of people like Sailor jerry collins, don ed hardy, bowery stan and try and copy some of there deigsns (this shows you know the roots of tattooing and how its evolved since there time) show a willingness to learn the art, don't try to rush into picking a machine up, learn first the fundimentals (different needles and there use, sterilising, machine setup etc), this helps to ensure you can create good work later on and to make sure your doing things correctly and safely.don't go into a studio with the attitude that you can help them and that your giving them a helping hand, there the ones that will be doing you a favour, not the other way around. dont go with an artist that charges you for anapprenticeship, these are only after money and wont really want to teach you. if you do get offered anapprenticeship make sure you listen to your teacher, try to imitate the way they work and only tattoo someone when they say you are ready, dont rush into things. bear in mind that tattooing is no way near how it is portrayed on shows like miami ink, we dont have the rockstar life, fact is we dont have time as we are always having to draw, design and prep for the days ahead in our free time. also bear in mind that you wont make a lot of money at the start until you get good and get a reputation for putting out qaulity work. however what youll lack in money you will gain in experience. It would be wise to do a couple of art and design courses as some tattooists look for this when considering a possible apprentice, however not all of them require this. Make sure to ask tattooers there opinions on your deigsns, what would they change and ask for critisism (again this shows your serious about the art) Hope things go well for you
