An occupational therapy assistant is often the conduit between the therapist and the client.
They are the individuals responsible for implementing the recommendations laid out in the treatment plan put together by the therapist. Occupation therapy aides fulfill mainly clerical and organizational tasks.
The required education level for an occupational therapy assistant is an associates degree or a certificate from an accredited community college. Occupational therapy aides don’t require accreditation and get most of their training on the job.
Responsibilities for an assistant are:
- Implementing the recommendations of a treatment plan
- Assisting clients with exercises and therapeutic activities
- May involve heavy lifting
The current job outlook for Physical Therapy Assistants is very good. With the increase in the senior citizen population there is more of a need now than ever for individuals to enter this field.
Competition for these positions has also increased so higher education levels have become more important.
